I just want to say thank you, I stumbled across your page while looking for answers on our own hip journey with our 1 year old little girl. We are finding out tomorrow if surgery is the only way to fix her hip after 24 weeks in a brace. It’s put me at ease a little reading your story with your little boy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still so scared about the fact she might need surgery and how we will all cope afterwards with the recovery. But all in all thank you! I hope your little one is well and his hip is in great for!

You are so welcome! This month we celebrated two years since Mason’s surgery. Everyone told me I would see it as a distant memory one day, but I remember everything vividly. However, our little boy is now a busy three year old whose favorite past time is running and riding his bike. His hips are healthy!

That’s great! I’m glad his hips are fine and he’s playing and doing everything he should be. I don’t think it will be a thing you would forget so easily, I know we rember everything with Ivy having to wear a brace and that’s just a brace never mind surgery. Was it just one of Mason’s hips? I’m only asking because of the type of cast he had on, Ivy’s is only one hip so was hoping it would be a cast like that rather than both legs.

Initially, it was both hips. The Pavlik harness trials corrected his left hip, but the left wouldn’t budge. We were so thankful he had one leg free in the cast… he would kick that one constantly! I know how scary this is, but as parents, we just “figure it out”. Just try not to let your mind wonder to the uglies… take it one day at a time 🙂

That’s brilliant that the harness helped one of his hips, be such a relief that it was only one hip that needed operating on. Aww bless him, bet it was so much better for him having the one leg free. I’m trying not to let it go and tried my hrdest not to Google until last night but glad I did now, otherwise I wouldn’t of found your page 😊

Hi! I came across your blog when researching about spica cast activities on Pinterest! I am so grateful to have found it!! We have a 7mo old baby girl who will be undergoing a closed reduction and spica placement this week. She is generally the happiest baby, but I am worried this cast will set her off! I would love to be in contact with you if you’re willing! Thanks so much for writing, I love your words and how you look to the Lord for your strength. I know we will not get through this without Him. Thank you again!

So glad you found the information useful! You are more than welcome to reach out if you have any questions or just need to vent. I found sharing my heart with someone who understood my situation first hand lifted me up most.
